Brief love notes

Carefully penned script

Tucked inside vellum

Just below

An aged photograph,

Of Aunts, all dead now,

Lined up in a row

Showing off their casseroles

1 dozen eggs

And a pound of sugar

2 cakes of yeast

Three pounds of flour

Written on the back

Of a bill from old Ma Bell

Torn out pages of a Ward’s catalog

Clipped to a Butterick pattern;

MiMi’s spring dress

Jimmy aced his last math test

5th grade, Mrs. Stack

7 playing cards

Lost from their deck

A thimble and an empty spool

Every item holding

A Memory of You

Author’s note: I happened across the photo above while searching for something else – it was the inspiration for the poem.
